Check Rail Corner Temporary Traffic Lights Prevailing Risk to Life
Garve and District Community Council

This afternoon, Friday 15th May 2026, at 2.15pm, GDCC contacted the Assistant to the Principal Engineer at BEAR Scotland regarding the wholly unacceptable and life-threatening situation caused by the temporary traffic lights on the A835 at Check Rail Corner. We have insisted that BEAR Scotland instruct their third-party contractor, Alba Traffic Management, to have personnel operating the lights at each end of the works from now until completion of the project.
We are awaiting a call back this afternoon and will provide an update on any progress. We have also advised that hundreds of cyclists will be using the route this weekend, adding further to the danger currently being caused by the lights.
We will update again as soon as we receive the call back.
The Principle Engineer is on Paternity leave hence speaking to his deputy.
UPDATE 3.10pm Friday 15th May 2026
Call back from BEAR Scotland - they will have personnel operating the lights from tomorrow onward - Saturday 16th May and all being well they hope to continue with that for the duration on the contract.
Principle Engineer back to work on Monday. A meeting will take place and we will get an update thereafter and will update here as soon as we have news.
Our Regional MSP Maree Todd has also written to Bear Scotland again this afternoon.
