Update on Koehler Renewable Energy (KRE) UK’s proposals for Tarvie Wind Farm

I am writing to update you on KRE UK’s emerging proposals for the Tarvie Wind Farm on land south of the A835, 3.7 km north-west of Contin.

Since 2024, KRE UK has engaged with the community from the early stages of the project, starting with a Meet the Developer Event in November of that year, followed by multiple community information events and ongoing stakeholder meetings.

Support for the project has consistently emphasised the opportunities the site would yield in both terms of skills and job creation, as well as long-term Community Benefit opportunities for communities and the ambition to help meet Scotland’s net zero 2045 pledge.

Since 2023, the project team has been undertaking ongoing environmental studies and analyses, particularly those aimed at minimising impacts on landscapes, water supplies, and wildlife.

It was our intention to commence consultation events in May 2026. The Tarvie proposal has advanced to a pre-application stage.

Having carefully weighed the site's viability, KRE UK has decided to put the project on indefinite pause. The site chosen is not situated in any nationally or locally designated area and has a good wind resource. Studies have revealed that the NESO grid reforms and global energy uncertainty make the site economically unviable, for the time being.

KRE UK is committed to building positive, long-term relationships with the communities living and working around its projects. We have engaged early with local groups and residents ahead of the formal consultation period for the proposed Tarvie Wind Farm, and we would like to thank all those who have engaged meaningfully and constructively.

The team remains firmly committed to this project's success and has invested significantly in understanding the land and its capacity to deliver clean energy. This belief hasn't changed.

KRE UK remains confident in the potential of the Tarvie area, and the fundamentals that make Tarvie a significant investment have not changed; we will monitor market developments to deliver on this belief. We are disappointed that, for now, the local area will not receive the local investment, supply chain opportunities and community benefits we firmly believe this project will create.

We would like to thank the community for engaging with us from the very beginning of the project. Your interest and input into our project have been invaluable to us. We hope to continue this conversation soon. If there is sufficient demand raised through the website, we would be happy to arrange a Webinar to address any questions at this stage.

In the meantime, we would also like to advise that information about this pause has been issued to the local media and those who registered for updates, and that our website, https://tarviewindfarm.com/, will remain active with a copy of our statement. Our contact details and email address remain available for any further information or clarification.

We thank you again for your time, interest, and support.
